The
Sensible Cook
Healthy Recipes & Meal Plans
The Sensible Cook meal planning service was originally created as part of a weight loss program in 2005. The intent was to teach people how to plan meals and use low fat cooking methods to help people gain control of their diets, while losing the typical "diet" mentality. Thousands of people across the country now subscribe to The Sensible Cook newsletter as an easy and cost effective way to eat healthier, using a real-world common sense approach to food.
Kaylan McKinney-Vialpando, M. ht, CPT is the writer of The Sensible Cook. She also writes for several sources on a variety of fitness and weight loss topics, and is releasing a new cook book in the fall of 2010. As the mother of five children and as a long-time health & fitness professional, she has been an advocate for healthy families, actively working with families and individuals to improve their eating habits, with a "no-diet" approach to eating smart.

Kaylan has worked professionally in the health and fitness industry for over 19 years, teaching weight loss and fitness courses at colleges and universities, and traveling as a speaker at health conferences throughout the country.
Years of working with people trying to lose weight, only convinced Kaylan that "dieting" was not the solution. Learning how to cook healthy and eat in a realistic manner was the right path to long term weight control success.
This concept and way of cooking supports overall good health without being overly complicated to prepare or requiring hard to find ingredients. Not only does this help with weight management, but also in helping to control diseases can can be triggered or made worse by poor eating habits. Kaylan herself has Rheumatoid Arthritis, yet has suffered no disabling bone damage, possibly controlled by following a diet that is naturally anti-inflammatory and low-fat by nature.
KAYLAN'S PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
What does it mean to be a sensible cook?
It means that you cook lighter, healthier meals as a lifestyle choice, not to be on a diet.
It means that we don't have to eat "perfect" all of the time as long as we're willing to be sensible about the whole thing and eat right most of the time.
It means that we can have desserts without guilt, because we have prepared them smarter.
It means we choose good fats over bad fats, and low fat over high fat.
It means that we can enjoy the taste of our meals while still eating healthy, without any feelings of deprivation.
A sensible cook is also budget aware, choosing seasonal foods that are available in a regular market. It's about balance.
It's sensible.
