The Sensible Cook
Questions and Answers about the Meal Planning Service
How does subscribing to The Sensible Cook save me money? Eating out is expensive. The average dinner on our plan costs $2-4 per serving to prepare. Plus, the organized grocery lists help you to waste less food and save money by buying only what you need. Less impulse buying means more savings! Also, the menus are seasonal so that you can take advantage of the best food prices.

How does it save me time? Eliminate the time meal planning and the stress of not knowing what to have for dinner by letting us organize it for you.  Plus the grocery shopping list is organized by store section, which gets you in & out of the store fast!

How are the meals "healthy"? The recipes emphasize a low fat, low sugar diet with lean protiens, complex carbohydrates (the good-for-you kinds), and fruits and vegetables, so you will enjoy a variety of flavors and cuisines.

Can I lose weight using these menus? Most entrees are between 200-600 calories each. Eating lighter is an important part of having a healthy body weight.

I live by myself or only cook for two people. Will this work for me? Yes! Choose the "Mini-Menu" version of the newsletter. It contains recipes that only make 2 servings (the regular issue contains recipes that typically serve 4-6). If you are cooking for yourself, you can freeze the extra portion or enjoy it the next day for lunch!

What about taste? All of the meals have been through a careful selection process. This is real, regular food prepared with smarter cooking methods and ingredients. You won't even know you're eating healthy!

What are the bonus recipes? They can be a variety of different types of recipes, from beverages, appetizers, snacks, breads, desserts, side dishes, salads, and more! All healthier low fat, low to no sugar versions, of course.

I'm a vegetarian. Will this work for me? The newsletter is written without a special diet in mind, except for the fact that everything has been modified to be a part of a healthy lifestyle. Most weeks contain recipes that include beef, chicken, fish, pork, and pasta as the main part of the dish. Some can be easily modified to exclude the meat portion (for example, a pasta dish loaded with veges and chicken will still be good if you don't use the chicken). However, some are obvious meat entrees (for example: BBQ grilled Chicken), and can't be used at all. There are usually a few recipes each month that are designed as vegetarian dishes though, and we have many vegetarian subscribers I suppose it depends on the degree of your personal vegetarianism.

How do I get the newsletter? After you subscribe, the newsletter is sent to you each month attached to your email (be sure to check your spam folders). It comes attached as a PDF file. It is written in such a way that you can print it, put it in a binder and make a wonderful low calorie cookbook, if you choose.
